The playoff race for many fantasy football owners is getting serious. There are only a handful of games left till the playoffs start in week 15. Many teams at this point in the season might be facing some injury issues or are just not getting the performance they need from some of their guys. One big injury update is the one Ben Roethlisberger experienced last night. If he is your QB, I’d say take a look or two, or three, at the free agents you can pick up just in case. Anway, in this week’s fantasy football review, we will look at some guys that are available to pick up from the free agent pool that might help your team down the stretch.
Some of the available quarterbacks in many leagues include Joe Flacco, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Phillip Rivers, and Andy Dalton. Phillip Rivers is the least likely to be available but he is in my league right now. The Chargers are infamous for heating up to end the year and the passing game seems to be clicking a little better right now. Andy Dalton just came off a great game as well and he and A.J. Green are really clicking.
For running backs right now there is not a good selection in free agency. The best options right now are probably Chris Ivory and Danny Woodhead. Ivory seems like the safer bet right now and is emerging in the Saints offense but Woodhead has the capability for really big days. If you are desperate at running back, these are likely your best options.
Danario Alexander might have just become a go to receiver in San Diego. He has busted into fantasy football relevance and is filling that Vincent Jackson role that the Chargers have been missing. He is available in most leagues and could be huge down the stretch. Cecil Shorts and Golden Tate are two other options for wide receivers.
The tight end position has been really hit or miss this year. I recently picked up Scott Chandler who like most others has been inconsistent at times. Jermaine Gresham is another guy you might look to pick up who seems to picking up a little bit of steam. Gresham is a gamble but so are all the available tight ends.
Right now the pickings are pretty slim for free agent players. I think the guy with the most upside right now might be Danario Alexander. Phillip Rivers is notorious for struggling to begin the season and catching fire to close the season. Alexander looks to have found a big role in this offense and could thrive down the stretch. Keep an eye on these guys and if you need to pick someone up consider them as decent fantasy options.
